Updating MacBook OS after restoring

I recently just restored my hard drive on my Mac OS. I have a MacBook Pro mid 2012. It reinstalled OS X Mountain Lion. I’m trying to update it to Catalina. I went to the App Store and went to the updates tab and I was able to update everything expect for iTunes which when ever I try it says “an error has occurred while downloading the updates(102) it does this every time. Does anyone know what I can do? I have Mountain Lion version 10.8.5

Not sure why you would get that. in this Support Topic it states

"* To upgrade from Lion or Mountain Lion, first upgrade to El Capitan, then upgrade to Catalina."
