When my phone is locked I have no notification. The phone does not vibrate or ring. I have to hit the sleep button to see the notification
Make sure that you have Notifications configured for Lock Screen. Also, check to ensure that you do not have Do Not Disturb turned on.
And check the little slide switch on the side of your phone
