I have some .mov files that I need to share with someone in a .mp4 file format. How do I convert them on my MacBook Pro? Is there a way to do it with quicktime or do I need to download some other software?

There is no real difference between the two.
Easiest way to do what you want is to duplicate the .mov file and change the extension to .mp4.
