iPhone 11 sync to iMac 2011 with Sierra 10.12.6

Getting msg Network Problem when I try to download & install software to sync iPhone 11 Max Pro to my iMac running macOS Sierra 10.12.6. Is the issue old software? If so, how do I upgrade to be able to sync my phone without buying a new computer?

Disconnect the USB cabling to the iPhone, exit iTunes, reboot both the iPhone and the Mac, start iTunes, and see if the download within iTunes finishes, then re-connect with the iPhone, and try again.
