My iPad is disabled. How do I connect it to iTunes?

My iPad is disabled. It prompts me to sign in to iTunes. I’m on iTunes, now what?

Follow the instructions here: If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

Note: make sure you have the latest computer iTunes version before you start.

12.8.2.3 (with latest patch) for Mac

12.9.x for Windows
