copy paste from safari to pages - Chinese characters

Hello,

I have to include Chinese sentences in my English text and I do this by copying these sentences from a website using Safari and paste it in Pages.

But recently (I think since updating to Catalina, but I'm not sure) when I try to paste the sentence, I get something like this: ²ÉÓÃÕýÈ·¿ÉÐŵÄ×ÊÁÏ

But if instead of copying, I choose 'share' and then 'Notes', it copies the Chinese sentence in Notes very easily. And I can then copy it from Notes to Pages... really weird!

Does anyone know why this is happening?

Thanks very much!

Hi JE-B747-8,

It sounds like you're having some trouble formatting multiple languages in Pages, and I want to help.

You may need to adjust the font formats or download fonts to your Mac to get this working right.

Check out these articles that might help:

Good luck.

Hello,

Thanks very much for your answer.

Just to be clear, I have no problem writing Chinese characters in Pages. I can even copy/paste from other sources (such as Notes or pdf). It's just that some websites (not all) with Chinese characters don't copy properly if I paste it directly to Pages or to Notes.

But if I try to share it and choose "Notes", then it copies it with no problem at all. I really don't understand!

I'll give you an example:

I just copied this from the website in question : 开场白 (by the way, no problem to paste it here)

Now I tried to paste it to Pages and Notes, and this is the result: ¿ª³¡°×

I also checked the Fonts, but the Fonts used on this particular website are included in Pages so there shouldn't be any problem...

Right now I just deleted Pages and downloaded it again but nothing's changed.

This is such a nuisance...

Thanks again for your help.
