Potential solution to iPhones bricked following 4.0.1 update

At this point, this solution has only been tested on a Mac. It doesn't appear to be working for everyone, but it's worth a shot. If you can get it working on a Windows machine please post a reply.

Here's the method:

Download RecBoot 1.0.2
I found it here: http://www.sebby.net/659-released-recboot-1-0-2/
Plug in your iPhone.
Close iTunes.
Run "RecBoot Exit Only"
Click the "Exit Recovery Mode" button.
The screen on the iPhone will go black. At this point, UNPLUG the iPhone (before it starts back up)
It will boot up correctly after finishing the firmware install.
Now plug your iPhone back in and complete a normal restore.

That's it. I spent over 4 hours trying to fix my phone before someone else came up with this solution. Prior to trying this I tried restoring about 20 times. I attempted on both OS X and Windows 7, different USB cables, reinstalled iTunes, and various other solutions people have been suggesting. This one works. Right now my phone's just finishing syncing my music and apps. Good luck!

Why are so many folks having problems and why does it seem that APPLE does not care. Normal users all of the sudden can not use their Iphones. Why on earth should we all be hunting around the internet to solve this. My phone is not Jail broken, I do not use tiny umbrella, and only use APPLE products. What is this really all about. Does anyone really know?

Hi All, I was having a similiar problem upgrading an iPhone 4 to 4.3.2 Tried just about all the solutions metioned above with no luck. It still went into unknown error 9 at the restoring firmware stage about three quarters away through the process.

I was unable to turn off security software such as my antivirus due to corporate settings on my laptop that runs Win7.

The phone is locked to Telstra in Australia and has never been jailbroken.

My fix came about by using fixrecovery43 available from the same folks that produced TinyUmbrella. I followed the directions from the following website:

http://www.dkszone.net/exit-recovery-loop-restoring-iphone-4-ios-4.3-4.2.1-fix-r ecovery

I had to also install the zlib1.dll file from the below link to the same folder as fix recovery.

http://forums.ngemu.com/epsxe-discussion/106182-zlib1-dll-not-found-fix-here.htm l

The link to download Fix Recovery can also be found at:

Hope this helps some people out.

I tried another solution and it worked for me. I ran redsn0w 0.9.9b5 on a Mac then used the 'recovery bug fix' feature after putting the device into DFU mode. In the middle of the operation and after installing some files into the device I got the device stuck between progress bar and reboot. I hard rebooted the device using the home and power button then restored to iOS 5. IT WORKED.

Listen guys,

A had tonnes of errors, 29, 9, 1184

all i did was restore my pc to a previous date

did this because one of the "fixes" that iwe read about stuffed up my pc so i ended up restoring;

this erased my backup and itunes alltogether so i downloaded itunes and kicket it back in as normal and all is sweet, except the fact that my phone is back to bear beginning

Phone was actually stuck in aloop before this and i was getting frustrated, spent 5 hrs reserching the net and trying different things

hope this helps at least a bit
