Can’t Close a downloaded pdf

I know there is suppose to be a library icon at the top, but it is not.

Lately I have downloaded patterns into iBooks and when I open them they will not act correctly. They do not allow the menu to appear. I even close iBooks and reopen and have the same pdf with no menu to go back to the library.

Any suggestions?

I have tried pinching the screen to make smaller with no results.

I have tried swiping down with no results.

5 finger swipe closed the app.
