CPU usage goes through the roof - and crashes - whenever I do a video call/meeting

I'm on Mohave and whenever I use an app with video chat/meeting functionality I experienced 100%+ CPU usage and an eventual crash (sometimes sooner, sometimes later). This is true across GoToMeeting, Zoom, MS Teams, and even FaceTime.

Seems to be tied to also being on wifi (I've experienced FAR fewer crashes when plugged into a network), and using my camera (vs not) but not consistent.

Has anyone out there experienced this and corrected it?

This system has a whole lot of possibilities for causing problems.

Remove the add-on anti-malware.

That’s where I’d start.

But that removal may not be “permissible” here.

ManageEngine?

CrowdStrike?

Flash Player? Java? Those should both be gone, if you’re not actively using them.

Modified hosts file? That can be a problem.

Cisco AnyConnect? Using this for business?

Assuming that this is a business-related system and this based on all the often-problematic and “enterprise-y” add ons, check with the organization’s IT folks, as they very likely own this configuration.

Could be hardware, or could be software.

Please download and run and post the results of EtreCheck. To post, open a new reply here and then press the button that looks like a printed page among the new-reply buttons, and that’ll open up a text input box that is big enough to paste the entire hardware and software configuration report here.
