imovie an vlc menubars dont work correct in mojave

computer is imac 27" end 2013 3,2 GHz Intel Core i5 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 with grafic GeForce GT 755M 1MB, running mojave 10.14.6. imovie (10.1.13) and VLC (3.0.8) are running not correctly since ca. 2 months:

clicking on each menu-item in the menubar, the original layers opens with their frames, but empty without any content. the missing content is spread over near the whole screen by 4 oder 5 big green oder violett stripes with big textparts of the layer-items in a very bad (low) resolution. same will happen, if you leave the program-window, for example to select a file to import from a folder outside on the desk.

all this happens only in imovie und vlc. all other pgrograms (nearly 50) work correct.

iMac 27", macOS 10.14

i solved the problem as follows.

its a graphic foult, produced by the last mojave update. apple recommends to deactivate the option "reduce transparency"

in the "apple system setting" / section "display". apple has promised to fix this bug but has given no timeline.

Hi lotharberlin,

Another suggestion I would recommend is try booting into Safe Mode and testing it there to see if the issues are gone.

To boot into Safe Mode, hold down the Shift key until you see the login screen. It will also say Safe Boot in red in the upper right corner of the screen.

Login and try opening the two applications, iMove and VLC to see if you experience the same issue.

Hello,

I have the same problem. Tried reset, reinstall, reboot, Safe Mode (iMovie does not needs GPU acceleration and does not work). Only run as another user works. Very strange.
