iPad 2 wifi + cellular will not find iOS 9.3.6

I have an iPad 2 wifi + cellular. On searching for update it states it is on the latest version 9.3.5. It will not find 9.3.6. I have tried over the air and via iTunes on 2 different networks each. Any further ideas? Thanks

You are welcome.

Correct. Wi-Fi only models are not affected by the issue at all, those models do not have a SIM card slot and also no visible antenna (for cellular connectivity) on the back of the device.

Left is Wi-Fi, Right is Wi-Fi + Cellular.

Now for the iPad 2, if you have that model, only the CDMA cellular variant is affected, but not the GSM cellular variant. CDMA is mostly used in the US, while GSM is Europe.

You can also provide us with the model number of your device, you can find that one in Settings --> General --> About.

If there is no 9.3.6 available for your iPad, the chances are high that you either have the Wi-Fi only version or the GSM cellular model, neither of those two require 9.3.6 and they continue to work after the 3rd of November.

For the iPad 2, only the CDMA Cellular model is affected. You may have the GSM version which doesn't need the update.

The Wi-Fi only model is not affected, and the GSM Cellular model is also not affected, so there is no 9.3.6.

The 9.3.6 has only been released for those devices that are affected, the others that are not affected don't get the update as it would be pointless.

Affected devices:

iPhone 4s (9.3.6)

iPhone 5 (10.3.4)

iPad 2 CDMA Cellular only (9.3.6)

iPad 3 All Cellular models (9.3.6)

iPad 4 All Cellular models (10.3.4)

iPad mini 1st gen All Cellular models (9.3.6)

Thanks for your reply. Using your information I have done a little research in the difference between GSM and CDMA and how to tell what I have. My conclusion is that I can't find out as there is no longer is a sim card in it, i.e. it's not used cellular. Therefore, I've concluded this does not matter and on the 3/11/19 it will continue to work regardless.

Does that sound right?

Thanks again

Matt
