I can't access Microsoft after Catalina update

I have Microsoft on my Macbook Pro and have used it for years to create documents, resumes, spreadsheets, etc. I updated my Macbook yesterday to the new OS Catalina and now I can no longer access Microsoft. It allows me to open Microsoft Word, but allows "view only" access. With this, I can view my previously saved documents but can no longer make changes or copy and paste from them. When I try to login to my Microsoft account it denies me access and gives me the message "there is a problem with your account, please try again later". Any advice how to solve this issue?

Double check that you are using a compatible version of Microsoft Office.

Beginning with macOS Catalina, only 64-bit applications are supported. The version of Microsoft Office you have might still be 32-bit and needs to be updated / upgraded to work with macOS Catalina.
