Backup iPhone to iTunes issue

My Mac has OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 I am trying to back up my iphone on iTunes, but I get an air message that says To use your iPhone with ITunes you need to install OS X 10.11.4 Should I install El Capitan

iMac 27", macOS 10.14

While you may be able to upgrade to El Capitan OS X 10.11.6 from app store

Maybe the next higher macOS could be more useful, if your Mac has no issue

with third party or other software that may also need upgrade to run there..?

Since there is no identifiers provided in this discussion, to tell what may work

~ there are later macOS versions; some may (or not) be available to your Mac.

These later macOS versions likely would also require a newer iTunes download

upgrade version so your iPhone or other iOS device could support them, too.


If your Mac and software could run Mojave 10.14.x that may worth considering;

but the hardware in an older Mac may need more RAM; also a larger hard drive.


And Catalina 10.15. brings with it a different file system, more security methods,

along with depreciated -no longer can use- 32-bit apps + drivers. It's 64-bit only.
