iphone 5 won't update software as the deadline approaches

My iphone 5 says 'your software is up to date' even though it currently has iOS 10.1 and I apparently need to update to 10.3.4 to avoid these new issues. What can I do? I can't see another way to force an update. Is it impossible for this old a model?

That is the current version.

Sorry, I don't know what else to suggest.

  • Check Settings > General > iPhone Storage (perhaps it was somewhere else like Settings > General > About > iPhone Storage back in the iOS 10 days) and be certain you have a minimum of 10% of the iPhone's storage free.
  • Force restart the iPhone. Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Then try the update process again.
