Apple TV+ would not play on AppleTV gen 2

Apple TV+ does not function on my Apple TV gen 2. However, the trailer of a movie (The Elephant Queen) does play with Airplay but not the movie itself. Frustrating.

Just bought an i-phone 11 that includes 1 year with apple tv+. Won't play on my 2nd generation Apple TV. why not?

As it is unsupported and quite old (nearing 10 years) you may want to consider upgrading to an Apple TV 4 or 4K, not a major investment but it will open up a much more fulfilling experience.
