Background Audio no longer working since iOS 13 update

Background audio shuts off after a few seconds of screen lock. I have been using chrome and Firefox to listen to web based classes for years now and ever since this iOS 13 update I’m having this background audio issue. The only way to bring the audio back on is to unlock screen and hit play again. This is not a viable option. When is this getting fixed? Really frustrated.

Hey there Sunnydays98,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand audio from certain apps stop when you lock your iPhone. This did not happen prior to iOS 13. I’ll be happy to help.

First, make sure that you’re updated to iOS 13.2.2 via Settings > General > Software update. This update addresses issues with apps in the background and may help restore previous behavior:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If this behavior persists, force quit the apps, restart your iPhone, and test them out:

How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If that doesn’t help, delete the apps in question, restart your iPhone, and install the apps. Test again and see if this resolves the issue:

How to delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Redownload apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books

If not, you an reach out to Apple Support at this link so they can continue to look into this with you:

I tried all the suggested steps above and none of them worked. Issue is still persisting. Note when I unlock my iPhone, the browser is still holding on to to the time market of where I was however, it stops playing about 30 seconds after I lock the phone. The only way to get it to start playing again is to unlock the phone and hit play again, at which point, it seems to have to redownload the next part of what it was streaming. As soon as I lock the phone, the whole issue persists once again.
