The ATV4k wont send HDR if I connect it direct to the input on the soundbar. I want it direct so the sound isnt altered via the TV in any way.
The yamaha app doesnt have any options as far as I can see to affect how this works. Looking at the manual the soundbar should be ok with a HDR 4k signal
Any help would be appreciated.

Does the manual specify that it is able to passthrough 4K and HDR? Does it work correctly when you connect directly to the TV?
Ok so then it appears that there is an issue with the soundbar. See if there are any further updates available and if the manual states anything for troubleshooting. Contact Yamaha if necessary.
Yeah, works fine connected directly to TV. Its just via the soundbar it doesn't pick up or output HDR. The Yamaha manual does state it accepts a 4k HDR input/output.
