uneven battery drain with the airpods pro

Hi, I bought the AirPods pro on release day and I have noticed an uneven battery drain. I would use them with my iPhone only for music — no calls. The right bud is draining faster than the other (72% vs 59% after around 2-3 hours of usage). Is this normal? Anyone else having this problem?

I returned a pair back in November. I received another pair as a gift and they work much better. Of course, I am still cursed with the iPods pro, this time my fault, I lost the left earbud. I contacted apple support to inquire if I could just go into the store and while they were looking up my information, the tech asked if I had gen 1 or 2. I said that I have the AirPods Pro and that I wasn't aware of a gen 2. She put me on hold and I never asked again since they could not check stock in a store. I got the replacement and it is fine also, but I never got an answer about there being a gen 2. I could not find anything online either. I think she thought I was inquiring about the original AirPods. Either way, the new AirPods Pro that I received as a gift perform better in my use cases (running with Apple Watch only and noise cancellation at work). If you still can, return the pair that has the battery drain issue and get a new pair.

Hope this helps

I have the issue too.

I am guessing this has to do with the microphone maybe? I think it can switch automatic from left to right and I turned this off so thats always on the right side which drains the battery quicker.

Will try the automatic mode again over the next few days initially that wasn’t working too well for me so the if that balances out the battery

I noticed the uneven charge right out of the box. I didn't pay it much mind and plugged them in over night. All good the next day with limited use, music mostly. Then I went for a run and while listening to music from my phone, the left would go in and out. I switched to playing music from my watch and it wasn't much better. Reset everything and next day all was right again audio wise, but i noticed the battery draining unevenly. I was busy, so did not use them again until the following day. Back on the road again for a run and the left flat out died within 30 minutes. I didn't not check the charge, but they were plugged in all night. Next day, I returned them. I would have taken an exchange, but the store was so busy, they didn't even ask, they just processed the refund. It was black Friday. I will keep an eye out on this thread and would consider them again if the issues are resolved.

I also noticed a weird red exclamation mark whenever I open the case in proximity to my iPhone 11 Pro. I am running 13.2.2 and also on latest APP firmware. There seem to be numerous posts about this on Reddit and Macrumors (affecting both the APP and the Powerbeats pro). I ended up returning the buds for a refund. I think this could be an early production issue and Apple of course would never acknowledge it 😆. I will wait for more reviews 😉

Yes, today after charging the AirPod Pros, the left bud was 100% and the right bud was blinking with the red exclamation mark. They both seemed to work for 10 seconds, but I decided to charge again. Both buds are now registering 100%, so l'll be interested to see what happens now... Is it possible for a firmware update to correct this battery imbalance? I'm thinking of returning too if issue does not resolve itself. Maybe we are the few who purchased defective products?

Apple today released a new firmware update for the AirPods Pro, which were originally released on October 30.

Today's firmware update is labeled as 2B588, up from 2B584,

which was the release version of the firmware that the ‌AirPods Pro‌

shipped with.

I'm having the same issues. Initially had the red exclamation, took it back and they exchanged just the airpods without the case. The newer ones had no issues until now. Significantly uneven power drain. Mostly on the right.

Why i typically don't get the first generation of a specific product. I consider this first generation, since the airpods don't have noise canceling.

I am fairly new to Apple products but that does sound strange. I have a similar problem regarding my AirPods Pro. Mine seem to lose it charge (2% drainage)/ 3 min song. And 1% drainage every 1-3 mins. Is this normal?

How many hours of battery life do you get with a full single charge?
