Magic mouse battery compartment cover is jammed closed

Please give advice on removing the battery compartment cover on magic mouse. The lever doesn't work any more and the cover cannot be pried off. The mouse is fully functional, but will need battery replacement soon. I have tried to look here and on You Tube, but there are no answers that solve the problem. Thank you.
