Disk Utility: Restore fails with "validating sizes" on Catalina 10.15.1 (19B88)

Hello,

I'm using Catalina 10.15.1 (19B88)

I'm trying to restore from a disk image to a USB drive. The exact error is:

"Could not validate sizes – Operation not permitted

The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error 1.)"

Any Ideas?

Cheers.

Restoring from an image results in an (OSStatus error 22.) error and restoring from a mounted image results in an (OSStatus error 1.). It's a bug in Disk Utility 19.0 (1704).

Carbon Copy Cloner worked for me instead.

How large is the Disk Image, how large is the external drive connected by USB?

Thanks. The image I'm restoring is 10.9 which isn't covered by those instructions.

However, that doesn't really matter. Disk Utility should happily copy files from an image to a disk.

The plot thickens....having done some more experimenting I've found I can't actually restore *any* images to *any* disks.

I get an error (OSStatus error 1.) or, more commonly, error (OSStatus error 22.)

Anybody have any insights into those codes?
