Volume locked in my MacBook

I have a MacBook Version 10.15.1, OS Catalina

The volume appears to be locked. When I press the volume keys, all i see is the speaker icon with a cross underneath. It won't let me adjust it in the toolbar. In settings > sound, there is no input or output devices found, nor will it let me adjust the output volume from there.

I tried restarting the computer, plugging in headphone, and nothing has worked.

Has anyone had to deal with this?

Try an SMC reset and a PRAM reset (hold the PRAM reset for a full minute so it activates several times).

Try booting into Safe Mode to see if you can adjust the volume or see the speakers.

If this does not help, then you have some type of hardware issue so take the laptop to Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider to be examined.
