resetting apple id
i bought this iphone for my kids and it has an apple id that is askign for the password. I have tried to contact the seller but can't get an answer...is there a way to change the apple id without the password?

No, there isn't. You will need to contact the previous owner to have them log out of iCloud or go to iCloud.com/Find My Phone and erase the device, then remove it from their account. If you can’t do that, the device is useless.
