Iphone/Ipad owner deceased

The owner of an Ipad and an Iphone, who is my cousin has passed away. I am executor of his estate. We are trying to settle everything for the beneficiaries. I have death certificate and copy of will. What can I do?

Both those device are probably locked with Activation Lock which requires the Apple ID and Password of the original owner or an original receipt. My best advice would be to take the documents you have to the Apple Store and they may be able to help you. Be sure to make an appointment and ask just what documentation they may require.

After spending an hour with Apple Support last week (Case ID #****) and being assured the proper deparment would contact me to assist in wiping and unlocking the Ipad and Iphone 10 in my possession, today the same tech (named either Diane or Selena - I spoke with both) called to say "sorry, we/you don't have his correct Apple ID, so we can't do anything further unless you can provide a receipt to prove he (my deceased cousin) was the legal owner of the devices in question. I gave them the serial # on the Ipad and the first initial(+ 5 blocked out ****@ gmail.com) indicating Apple ID on the lock out screen. I also gave them the only 2 email addresses I have for him. Now my only recourse, apparently is to throw the devices away. Oh, she did mention I could give them to Apple to recycle (for free!)- so apparently they can wipe them and resell them just can't do it for us. Soooo frustrating!

Yes, both devices are locked. We've tried several PW that we found in his papers, but nothing works so far. I have numerous Apple devices and am very farmiliar with their incredibly good firewalls. I will take all docuentation t othe Apple Store in Santa Monica and gofrom there - I'm pretty sure this circumstances is nort unique so hoping they have some protocols that will work for us - thanks for your prompt response!
