Battery Indicator stuck at 100% All day

My battery indicator stays at 100% and then will die without warning. Has anyone had this issue? It started doing this within 2 weeks of receiving the watch, the update (6.1) did fix it temporarily and then a couple of days ago, it started again.

Apple Watch Series 5, watchOS 6

I sent my Series 5 into the repair center (well, my Apple Store sent it there) and it bounced back from them after a couple days, saying they couldn't replicate the problem. They were useless. It's like the Apple Watch falls into this gulch, as far as Apple support goes. It's the only thing they can't try to fix in the store, at their own Genius Bar. And they weren't that happy with the Apple repair center either. Before I read about the turn it off for 15 min and then back on again, I had literally tried every single thing except getting a new watch (which the store said I couldn't get, since Apple Care didn't cover a repair when they couldn't find the problem). But I've read about people here who got new ones and it didn't help the problem. I've restored from previous, from scratch, put it in the freezer (worked a couple days), taken it to the Genius Bar three times and talked to support in Cupertino (I pay $500 a year for Joint Venture Business Support) and the only consistent thing I ever got was that it was a software issue. No updates ever helped. My previous four Apple Watches, each of the series, didn't have this problem. But then I did the 15 min off and back on (I can't remember how much it was already charged when I did that. I think I did it when it had said 100% for 24 hours and I knew it would in the next 6 hours just randomly die. I haven't had any problems since then and that's been around 2-3 months ago that I did it. If anything, it uses up the battery a tiny bit faster than it used to.

Thanks for everyone who's responding with their experiences.

I shut down the watch for about 30 minutes today, and it seems to be un-stuck from a constant reading of "100%". Now let's see if that shutdown also addresses the sharp drop in battery life (and instant shutdown when it gets low), which was also part of this overall issue.

It's impossible to set up an in-person repair right now because all the stores and repair shops are closed, and like others have said, if you send it to the Apple Repair Depot, the watch will pass their diagnostics test and you'll just get it sent back again. I'm more reliant on the watch right now because I have Zoom appointments 7 days per week during this pandemic, and the watch notifications/reminders really help.

A status update. Nothing has changed. Things remain stuck at 100 percent. However, I have turned off the Always On setting which seems to improve battery life considerable. I wear the watch for about 18 hours each day, place it on the charger for a hour, rinse and repeat. Keep in mind it's always at 100 percent. Not sure why the problem is, but the watch works every where else.

SO after about a month of this, my battery counter is working again. What I did makes zero sense on "fixing" it.

First, I turned the watch off for 20 minutes, then I charged it overnight. It's now showing 62 percent, which is about right after 12 hours. Not a scientist here, but perhaps like others have said this issue has something to do with needing to shut the watch off sometimes. No idea.

Funny mine started literally two days ago after not after having the problem in a long time. Worse part was I was doing a little bicycle tour and was 600 miles from my house in the middle of literally nowhere. Look down and watch is dead. I mean I was in the country in North Florida. I guess it’s not happening to enough people for them to care. They must know. They are far from stupid. If they can tell me my heart rate and an app can tell me how long I slept, believe me they know.

My phone is fine, other than a few minor beta bugs. Months ago, a former Senior Advisor who I knew theorized that it was the phone that was at fault, because it was syncing the software to the watch. He suggested a hard reset after I received the new one, and said I should restore everything from the iCloud. While the issue reappeared, it confirmed the phone issue since it never appeared for the technicians.

Try a forced reset;

To force reset your Apple Watch, press and hold both the side button and Digital Crown for at least 10 seconds, then release both buttons when you see the Apple logo.
