Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I got an email saying my new apple watch came with a year of free apple tv, but I can't get it to offer me the free year, just a week trial. Is there something special I should be doing or was the email in error?

They can often make them look very authentic, and Apple doesn't typically send such emails. Even if they had started to here, as a reminder to claim the offer, the watch doesn't qualify so that would seem very suspect. Anyway, if you do happen to purchase a qualifying product (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Mac) then I will list the steps below for claiming the offer.
Beware of such emails as they can typically be phishing scams. The offer is tied to the device and requires signing up on the device through the TV app to claim the offer. The watch doesn't qualify as it cannot be used to access the TV app.
It was definitely from apple. I'm extremely computer literate and well able to recognize a phishing scheme, but it's always a good reminder of something to check for, so I appreciate the suggestion. :)

I would check the sender address of the mail and never follow some link from the mail which would lead you to a page where they required appleID and password or creditcard details
