image capture error message 21355

I was using Image Capture to import photos and movies from my phone to my computer when it seems to have stopped working. The images went away and I thought it was because my phone screen locked, but when I unlocked it and tried Image Capture again, it gave me an error message that says the operation couldn't be completed. com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -21355. Any ideas of what is going on and how to fix it? I did some searching but haven't come across anything yet that helps me with this.

Thank you!

Thanks for following up, TuffTomato,

Since you're still having some trouble with importing your pictures, I would recommend trying the following steps next. Try them in order, testing between each:

  1. Quit Image Capture: Quit apps on Mac - Apple Support and restart your Mac: How to turn your Mac on or off - Apple Support. Then open Image Capture while holding the shift key on your keyboard.
  2. See if you can import your pictures in safe mode: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support.
  3. See if the pictures will import in a new, test user: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support.

These steps will help us determine whether the issue is with Image Capture, your specific user account, or macOS as a whole. The articles provided for both safe mode and a new, test user will give information on why each step is helpful, how to use the step to troubleshoot, and what to do with your findings

If you still need help after that, please get in touch with Apple Support directly: Contact Apple Support.

Cheers!

Hi, TuffTomato!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. I understand that when you try to import pictures from your phone using Image Capture, you get an error. I'm happy to help!

Based on what you've described, I would recommend using the information and steps outlined in If you can't import photos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer - Apple Support.

Have a good day.

The official recommendation is to quit (try the cloud, different cables, or different computers, maybe an android)?? Is there anything that folks with this problem can do that involves solving the problem? Assuming that the iphone, the computer, and the connecting cable in question work, why is this happening and what needs to happen to fix it (without run arounds). I am starting to get pretty frustrated with how impossibly difficult its turning out to download my iphone pictures to a hard drive.

Hi,

I am trying to save copies of my pictures without using the Photos app for multiple reasons. The Image Capture was a nice answer so I didn't have to go through Photos and it is something that came on my computer, but does not seem to be working properly now. Is there a solution so I can continue to use Image Capture?

Thank you

I'm getting a different error but the same problem since upgrading to Catalina. In Image Capture, in Preview, and in Photos, I can see the files on my camera but import does not work. In Preview, I get the error message (same as above but number 9956). In Photos, when I try to export the images to the Finder the app just hangs and has to be terminated. I've only upgraded one Mac in the office so I was able to pull the pictures using a different machine running High Sierra.

I had exactly the same problem and also found it very frustrating that Apple have not provided a solution. My import failed partway through a 7000+ image import. Files were being imported in date order and I was able to get round it by checking how far down the list ImageCapture had got before failing. I then deleted all of the images with the same date and was then able to restart ImageCapture and continue the import. I guess there was a problem with one of the images but think ImageCapture could give a better error message!
