Cannot save on external drive which was partitioned for mac and worked without any problem previously

I have a 1 TB Seagate external drive which I partitioned on my mac and I used to save files on one partition, now I can only read files from this partition I cannot save any files there. Actually I save a word file and then it gets deleted automatically.

Please advise.

Files in external drive not showing in M1 Hello, new Mac user here, I bought a MacBook Air M1 (8gb/256) a couple of days ago. I plugged in my 2 TB SEAGATE external drive today only to find out files are not showing up. I can see some folders but they seem to be empty when I open them. Also, most of files seem gone. I know the files are there cause I can see them and access them with a PC and even Disk Utility can tell there's used space in the drive but you just can't see them when connected to the Mac. I even tried to use the cmd+shift+period to see hidden files but nothing seems to work. anyone knows what's going on? Help!

Formatted external drive I have an external drive I've been using from new with my 2012 macbook pro. I recently put all my work files on it as my macbook was dying(only powering on for a few minutes at a time) I connected it to a Windows laptop and formatted the drive whilst trying to view the files on Windows machine, not realising I would lose all my files. The drive hasn't been used at all since formatting it. What steps should I take to recover the files. Any help would be greatly appreciated as it contains a lot of work that hasn't been backed up anywhere else and the macbook pro is only powering on for about a minute at a time. I would really appreciate any help. Kirsten

If that external drive is formatted as ntfs, then more then likely you need to update you third party software (?)
