Quicktime Player 10.15 Screen Recording Cutting out after about 6 min

Hi,

I'm running Catalina 10.15.1 and need to use Quicktime Player to record screen recordings with audio. I have a 2019 iMac 27inch. It has plenty of storage (although after upgrading to Catalina I had to manually delete several Time Machine backups generated through the update process that were taking up the entire drive).

When running Mojave there was no issue. However, after upgrading, whenever I attempt to do a screen recording, Quicktime will only record between 5 and 6 minutes.

Interestingly, when I try on my 2018 Macbook pro (also running 10.15.1), there is no problem.

Any help would be great.

Hello DTP2012,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. I understand that QuickTime Player only records 5-6 minutes of your screen. I also see that the issue doesn't happen on your MacBook Pro, which is also running macOS Catalina. I have a few more steps in mind that might help.

For this issue, I recommend disconnecting an unnecessary peripherals, then booting into safe mode or into a new user account to see if the issue persists:

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

I hope this information is useful. Kind regards.
