Airpods pro overheating & not charging fully

Hey guys I just got my AirPods pro about a week ago and haven't had any issues until last night. I woke up and went to grab my AirPods off of the wireless charger and the whole case was moderately warm (very warm actually) to the touch. I didn't think too much of it because i know sometimes when i place my phone on the pad it can become a little warm. However not to the degree the airpods were just to clarify... And when i opened to the case to check the charge level, i was in complete surprise to see the actual pods themselves were not even charged fully (78%) and the case was at 99%.. I found this just a little concerning and went around googling however I don't see anyone with the same issue. Does anyone have any ideas or experienced anything like this?

I had the exact same issue, except mine was not warm but very hot. I was so surprised that I actually dropped it immediately. And after waiting for the airpods pro to cool down a bit, I also found that the pods themselves were also hot. Seeing that my wireless charger is qi certified and all, I’m starting to think that it may be a voltage problem. This definitely doesn’t seem normal. Should I take my airpods pro to customer service?

iam not using a charging pad, iam using a cable and it’s just the right AirPod that doesn’t charge above 72% but the battery is more alike to it being 10% because after 10 mins it’s already drained and its hot to the touch which is what deters me from using it out of fear that it might melt and such, other than that it works

Hi liamsmiith,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I see you've ha an issue with your AirPods Pro and a charging mat, and I'd like to help.

If you've had this issue again, there are some isolation steps that you can do.

Does charging with the cable which came with your AirPods Pro have the same result?

Is your charging mat Qi-certified?

Reset your AirPods may also help if still having charging issues.

I was sat on a plane last night with the aircon blowing (probably on the left side of my head) about an hour into my flight my AirPods starts beeping in my left ear (battery 5%) right ear 65%....it was so hot it probably burned my ear and now the left one won't go above 81% and then drops really quickly....I sense a hardware issue!

I could imagine the ambient noise of the aircon draining the battery quicker but that level of impact is a joke! I find this "are you using the cable that came with them" question a joke...if my response was no I had to buy a new genuine Apple one or a the one that came with my iPhone X would the answer then be "please try the one that came with them"
