empty rectangle appeared on my desktop and would not go away

hey all.

so this morning i noticed an empty rectangle has appeared in the middle of my desktop and i cannot close it or do anything to it at all. any idea why it happened? how do i remove it?

I have a mac pro retina display late 2015.

would appreciate any help!

Have you tried simply restarting your computer? Could be a glitch left behind by selecting files on your desktop or the border of a window that you previously closed. Restarting should resolve the issue.
