empty rectangle appeared on my desktop and would not go away

hey all.

so this morning i noticed an empty rectangle has appeared in the middle of my desktop and i cannot close it or do anything to it at all. any idea why it happened? how do i remove it?

I have a mac pro retina display late 2015.

would appreciate any help!

Thin red vertical line on desktop I've seen other posts about a thin red line on an iMac screen. Mine is a little different in that it's only on the desktop, but doesn't show up on any opened documents, web pages, etc. It does show through any icons that happen to be on that part of the desktop. I don't think it's an LED issue--I'm assuming that would affect the screen view of documents as well. Any theories? Thanks for your help.

Black rectangle on desktop (macOS Catalina 10.15.5) Hello, I have the following problem, and any help would be appreciated. After I upgraded my Macbook Air to Catalina 10.15.5 a black rectangle appeared on the desktop screen, it covers whatever is under it, but only in the desktop. When I open apps, folders, etc., the rectangle does not affect them, however, it doesn't go away, and visible over whatever image I use for the desktop; it also covers icons of the folders and files in the desktop. I did a little research and it seems that the rectangle in my screen is different from other black rectangles that some people find in their Macs. I've tried to fix it, but nothing works. It's really annoying and I'm worried that it might cause more problems. This is the black rectangle at the upper left corner: It only stays on the desktop elements:

Have you tried simply restarting your computer? Could be a glitch left behind by selecting files on your desktop or the border of a window that you previously closed. Restarting should resolve the issue.
