Mac Mail formatting bar is aligned too far to the right

Since I updated to Catalina (version 10.15.1), my mac mail formatting bar has moved to the very far right. I am unable to add colors or change fonts from the bar and have to open colors or font screens by the menu. It's really annoying because I use the formatting bar frequently when composing e-mails. Please see images of the before (from my macbook) and after, on my iMac.

Any help to fix would be appreciated!

Catalina Mail Columns, "show side preview" not working. Clicking view > show side preview on and off does nothing. I suspect the column width was shrunk too small somehow to 0, how do I revert to the default screen setting for preview side bar size? I need to see the preview of the mail.

The appearance of Mail in Big Sur is appalling. Apart from moving all the labelling around, the top menu bar is far too small and pale. might be fine for a 20 yearly, but this 70 year old is really struggling. I have spoken to Apple Support but really unhelpful - only suggestions were to downgrade back to Catalina or stop using Apple Mail completely!!! The left hand tool bar has also been made worse, with the headings all too feint against the pale grey background. It appears there is no way of changing the contrast or font size of the tool bar information, only the emails themselves. This is a poorly thought through upgrade that completely ignores the needs of all users with less than perfect sight. Shame on You, Apple Has anyone got a solution please?
