User Interface Freezing. Fan speed and CPU Temp Changing Wildly.

Greetings,

A few days ago, my MacBook Pro fell off my desk. Ever since then there have been severe performance problems. The kernel CPU usage goes up to 1000%. The UI freezes completely up to ten seconds including the clock stopping and the pointer not moving. The fan speed quickly goes up and down between 2000rpm to 6200rpm often. The CPU temperature fluctuates greatly and suddenly. The fan speed and the CPU temperature do not seem to correspond. The temperature will be about 100°F then the fan suddenly goes up to 6200rpm, and the temperature will be about 150° while the fan stays at 2000rpm.

It does all this even if I boot from a different volume. Also, I reset the SMC.

I just installed a program to control the fan speed, Macs Fan Control. I set the fan to a constant 4000rpm, and the problems have stopped. My MacBook Pro performance is normal again. If I turn off the fan control, the problems return.

So what is going on? What is causing the problem?

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.13
