Otterbox screen protector residue

I received my otterbox iPad protector yesterday and tried to put on the supplied screen protector and got it on wrong and when I tried to take it off it left a sticky residue on my iPad screen. I was wondering what is the safest way to get this residue from my iPad screen? Otterbox said to use a cloth and warm water but I thought I would ask the experts opinion here because I don't want to remove the coating that Apple put on the iPad screens to resist fingerprints and smudges. So if anyone has any ideas how to remove this sticky film from my iPad I would appreciate it.
