Getting an error when I try to factory reset my ipad

when you follow all the instructions to factory reset the ipad.

open finder

open the ipad

click trust

click restore ipad

I click dont back up the ipad ( I do not want to back it up ) wiping it clean.

click restore and update

then it says “your Mac is preparing to restore the software on this ipad”

I get this error message after the little bubble next to the ipad goes full circle and then the arrows spin for about 10 to 15 seconds then the error message pops up “ the IPad (name of the Ipad) - could not be restored. Unknown.

I have tried restarting my machine 4 times. I have triple checked that the MacBook Air is up to date.

I have also done this same process with my Mac Mini 5 times and I am getting the same response.

Any information or help would be greatly appreciated.
