Problem solved! Went to Genius Bar and they replaced the buds and I am now getting the bass tones I expected. There must have been some type of defect. The genius bar tech was a puzzled as I was. When I do the sound test, it still indicates they are not a perfect fit with any size tip, but don’t care as the sound is now excellent with the replacements.

Sorry but this is a stupid, misinformed statement no offense. The AirPods pro drivers are small due to all the other hardware Apple fits in them. For what they are, they sound good but because of the small drivers, they’re unable to deliver deep bass. Maybe you’re more a treble lover but people who say they can’t hear the bass most definitely do not need to get their hearing checked! I’d suggest tweaking the equalizer for maybe a small increase in bass with certain songs.

I am chill. Unlike Johnathan, (and both of us are longtime headphone addicts) I don't think the Airpods artificially inflate bass and sound terrible, I think the bass on both the models are comparable assuming you have the proper seal on your AirPod Pros. But they are definitely not a pumped up extra bass headphone like others that are out there, like the 1st generation Beats solos and others I can name. If they are not enough for you return them and buy some that state they add extra mid-bass (this is what you are not hearing). The AirPod Pros are designed to give accurate bass reproduction.

Exactly true, AirPods Pro have practically no bass response... I have AirPods 1 and AirPods Pro in front of me. I listen to Tom Petty through Pro and it sounds thin and tinny. Pause music, switch yo AirPods 1 and voila, beautiful bass and full frequency. You need to simply have a normal fit. Of course if you squish them in the bass improves but they fall back to a loose position so the real desk is how weak the actual eq bass response is on the newer model vs old 1’s and 2’s...
