Difficulties pairing my Apple Watch to my iPhone

I am having difficulty pairing my apple watch to my iphone. It is not a new apple watch. I have tried manually as well but the code does not appear to enter it.

Can my iPhone XR pair with my Apple Watch Series 8? I’m trying to pair my Apple Watch Series 8 with my iPhone XR and it is telling me I can’t. I have updated to the latest iOS update. As soon as it takes me to the 6 digit code page, it tells me to start over, and it loops.
