Can my iPhone XR pair with my Apple Watch Series 8?

I’m trying to pair my Apple Watch Series 8 with my iPhone XR and it is telling me I can’t. I have updated to the latest iOS update. As soon as it takes me to the 6 digit code page, it tells me to start over, and it loops.

New Apple Watch series 8 wont pair to iPhone I have just unboxed a new Series 8 Watch.. It will not pair either way It Displays 'Paring Failed' when using the camera every time. When trying to pair manually, It asks for a 6 digit code that is displayed on the watch face, But there is no code displayed on the Watch Face ... only the number of the watch for the pairing I have reset the watch several times and turn both devices on and off several times Online Support Chat unable to help and has been escalated but not until tomorrow Any ideas before they call tomorrow?

Seems an iPhone XR with iOS 16 or higher can pair with a Series 8 watch is if the watch has watchOS 9 or higher

About watchOS 9 Updates - Apple Support says watchOS 9.6.1 is the latest version.

Wondering too, whether or not this iPhone and this watch have been paired before.
