increase auto-lock time

Finally figured out how to increase it past 5 minutes...other thread closed but here is the answer.

Autolock is a bit of a misnomer. It's really a screen saver.

There's another place where we can change the time on the passcode itself. The default is 'immediately' which they never seem to tell you. So setting the passcode timer to 'immediately' is what turns the autolock screensaver into an actual autolock.

So now, when at home, I have my 'autolock' (screensaver) set back to 1 minute to save batter BUT I have my passcode set to 4 hours. Now when my screen goes dark just touching it wakes it up but does NOT request my passcode.

Go to

Settings

Then scroll way down (6th one after General which is in the 3rd section) to TouchID & Passcode.

Will have to enter your passcode to make these changes.

Then go to 4th section of choices to Require Passcode and then to the right in light gray you will see the word 'After'

NOW you can control the intervals for the passcode request SEPARATE from the Autolock time. It will most probably have 'immediately' checked off since, as stated above, it's the default. But that is what makes the autolock more than just a screen saver.

Now if finger print is used, this is all sort of moot.

But for those using a passcode it resolves the issue of having to type in the passcode all the time.

Not quite the same. There's another discussion here that is closed so I couldn't post there any more but people wanted what I described but no solution was offered. And my post above isn't really a question but a solution.

For those not using fingerprint or facial recognition, they WANT the display to go to sleep to save battery but they do NOT want to have to put in their passcode every time. My solution above addresses that scenario. It makes it possible to have 'autolock' act more like a 'screensaver only' mode. Keep it to one minute to save battery but have up to 4 hours to put in the passcode. Setting it to 'never' is a waste of battery and unnecessary.

Now I set the passcode time to 4 hours when I am at home and more like 5 minutes when I leave the house and my 'screensaver' to one minute. All needs get fulfilled this way. Otherwise I have to sacrifice battery usage unnecessarily. And that's the way the OS is designed otherwise there wouldn't be two settings available to begin with - one timer for the autolock and one timer for the passcode. Have the features, might as well use them.

I didn't.

My first sentence states:

"Finally figured out how to increase it past 5 minutes...other thread closed but here is the answer."

Saw over 10k people ckg the other thread but still no complete solution. I finally found what works but other thread was closed so I thought to post the solution this way for those that might still be trying to accomplish it who can't or would rather not use a fingerprint or facial recognition. Was trying to be helpful sharing what I had found and again, wasn't allowed to post the solution on the other thread so figured with the same title, those looking for an answer would find this here. Sorry if that misled you and for that I apologize.

Search "Auto-lock" in settings and set it to "never".

Note: If you have low power mode on, auto-lock is auto-set to 30sec and cannot be changed
