Has anyone else had any issue getting iTunes 12.9.5.5 to see an iPhone 3GS? Running Catalina on my MBP and Mojave on another MBP, both fail to even see the device as being connected. Have reset the iPhone, no help.

Turned out to be a faulty cable. Problem appears to be solved.
It is a ten-year old, retired product. Why would Apple build support for an iOS 6.1.6 device in a current release of iTunes?
The Apple support person I chatted with told me iTunes supports all devices ever made.
Update: Roommate plugged it into his laptop, an older machine with native USB-B ports running Mojave, and it saw the iPhone. Plugged it back into my MBP (USB-C) and it briefly recognized it then rejected it and it disappeared.
Detail: this same iPhone paired perfectly with my MBP until the latest release of iTunes.
Plugged it into the roommate's MBP again, this time the iPhone was not recognized.
I use this as an iPod in my car's stereo player, not as a phone. Unfortunately the stereo only accepts older Apple devices.
