Apple Watch workout not showing map

I wanted to move from using Strava to Apple's Workout app (for running and cycling), but the Workout app doesn't show/store the GPS.

I have seen other posts like https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8106566 and tried all:

  • Doesn't view a map/route under activities
  • Wrist Detection / (Un)locking works fine; it never locks during a workout
  • Tracking 'fitness', 'heart rate' and 'health' (on Watch and iPhone) is on
  • There is no 'Apple Watch Workout' in my Privacy/Location Services list
  • Privacy/Location services/System services is configured correctly too
  • Rebooting iPhone/Watch didn't help

What can I do to store the route/map? I normally run with only my Watch (iPhone stays at home), but I just tested it inhouse (with iPhone closeby) and then there's no map either.

I found the solution by un-pairing my Watch and re-pairing it (using the created backup, not configuring as new watch). It will ask whether the Watch is allowed to access the location services (or something alike, I forgot to make a screenshot). Apparently, this setting was not copied/transfered from my iPhone 6 to my iPhone 11.
