pairing an old trackpad to my new imac

I have disabled my old mac and didn't unpair my trackpad first. I am now trying to pair the trackpad to my new mac and it isn't showing up. What should I do next?

Calling expert users of very early trackpad and keyboards! I've switched from iMac to MacBook Air (2017) plus Dell screen. I moved a couple of months ago and found my very early trackpad. magic keyboard and mouse and now I've decided I'd like to use those with the new set up. The problem is the MacBook can't find the the keyboard and trackpad. I had success with the mouse (same vintage) by going back to the iMac to unpair it - then it could be found. Unfortunately, the keyboard and trackpad weren't paired with the iMac. So now I wonder if they were paired with another device that I no longer remember. Another possible problem could be they're just old and aren't turning on. It's hard to tell because The on/off button is on the right hand side and there is no LED light to show when it's on. I've changed the batteries on everything. Can anyone help me solve this. It would be so great to be able to re-use these devices. I'm sure they're functioning and I just hate waste!!! TIA😍

I have no keyboard and mouse to access my iMac hey. I have an iMac bought in 2010 and I can't recall the last update. after returning from travelling in 2020 my keyboard and trackpad, which were unused for years (since 2016), the battery acid had leaked making them impossible to open up and replace batteries. So now I have no keyboard and mouse for my iMac and I can't access the machine. I bought a cheap non-branded wireless keyboard but couldn't connect. Now I'm reluctant to buy an official apple one because I don't know what software my iMac is running and most keyboards require more recent software. what can I do? I really want to get access to the machine but don't want to spend £100 on a keyboard to find it doesn't connect. thank you [Re-Titled by Moderator]

First, review the steps for set up here: Set up your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, and trackpad - Apple Support. If you still can't get your trackpad connected, try the steps under, 'Your device isn't recognized by your Mac', in this article: If your Apple wireless mouse, keyboard, or trackpad isn't working as expected - Apple Support. I would also recommend restarting your Mac: How to turn your Mac on or off - Apple Support.
