Not to happy with the PRESS COFFERENCE!

So we are all getting free bumpers. Big deal, those bumper are ugly. One big reason to buy this phone is for the looks. The stainless steel on the side. And now we have to cover it all up with a plastic bumper to have the phone operate. That's like buying a Bently and putting hub caps over the wheels. And maybe even a foam cover over the steering wheel.

They should of had some kind of hardware fix.

Sorry I just had to vent.

I didn't know I could write Steve personally to say that I like my phone. Gee if I'd known that, I would have. And I'm betting a couple other million happy iP4 owners didn't know it either. So, I don't think you're assumption that 5K positive emails is indicative that there are 2,995,000 unhappy people is even a reasonable assumption......

Of course an equal number of unhappy customers probably didn't realize that either and would have written him to express their displeasure. 😉

oh, and yes, the bumper does make the phone thicker. Im guessing apple knew about this all along and wanted to try to get away with it by getting everyone to buy bumpers. Id love to have a bumper if every color available wasnt a color on the gay rainbow. I want a red one! maybe i could think about white, but none of the other colors interest me bc of their level of gayness or boringness.

Also, this problem is def a software issue. After my wife upgraded her 3gs to 4.0 her phone would lose signal when held in the same way. I never upped my 3gs and never had the issue. She never had the issue before 4.0.

You didn't answer my question I wrote you in this thread.....now that you know the outcome of today, are you keeping your phone?

That's because for literally, factually, 99% of owners THERE IS NO PROBLEM. I will not get a bumper because its not needed--I've literally tried several times to drop a call by gripping the problem area and nothing happened to either the call or the reception for the person I was on the line with. 3 different times with three different people and locations. I have run surveys of owners on a couple of blogs as well and only 3 people reported any problems, and none of the three will be returning the phone. This is a non-issue (apart from that legitimate 1%) except for Apple haters and hypochondriacs.

Unfortunately none understood the conference. _Apple is working on it_ and still is! They've explained it's not just their fault and spent 22 days prior to the conference to find explanations and resolutions to the issues.

Every manufacturer has this problem as well including Apple. Motorola Droid X and HTC EVO 4G may also have this issue, yet they didn't advertise them having one bar in the palm covering which is odd.

They are working on a software fix on the proximity sensor which will be patched soon. More than likely we have to wait it out until September 30 (4.1's release month).

The antenna has a simple area to avoid. The black stripe. Many can avoid that either with a case or holding the i4 with your finger tips away from the stripes. You can use any case but Apple will provide you a free one in the mail or at their in-stores.

You can get a refund within your 30-day period if you are unsatisfied even with exchanges. Apple explained on the full refund and may be with AT&T as well. They are working on the details.

so vid....just curious.....I know you were wating for the response today. What's the verdict. Will you still be an iP4 owner, or is yours going to be returned........

I just returned from a business trip and I'm downloading the update as we speak. If it bricks my phone as it has others, so be it. To answer your question specifically, assuming I get the update to run smoothly and the update takes care of the proximity sensor issue (inadvertently disconnected several calls over the last 2 nights as the result of that), I'll first take a look at the new Samsung Captivate and then make a decision.

If that unit gives me the functionality I need, I may well go with it and return the 4. CNET has already indicated it's a better 'phone' than the I4 with better reception and sound quality. My expectation is that the I4 will offer some better features, but if the Samsung's features are 'good enough', I'd rather have the more reliable phone. Let's face it, these devices need to be excellent PHONES first and foremost. 🙂
