Not to happy with the PRESS COFFERENCE!

So we are all getting free bumpers. Big deal, those bumper are ugly. One big reason to buy this phone is for the looks. The stainless steel on the side. And now we have to cover it all up with a plastic bumper to have the phone operate. That's like buying a Bently and putting hub caps over the wheels. And maybe even a foam cover over the steering wheel.

They should of had some kind of hardware fix.

Sorry I just had to vent.

I-Phone 4, iOS 4

From Apple Site.

'When creating iPhone 4, Apple designers and engineers didn’t start with a clean sheet of paper. They started with three years of experience designing and building the phones that redefined what a phone can do. iPhone 4 is the result of everything they’ve learned so far. And it’s all contained in a beautiful enclosure a mere 9.3 millimeters thin, making iPhone 4 the world’s thinnest smartphone.'

Then we add a Bumper????

I beleive the free offer does not apply to cases, only bumpers. This was in a blog of the live press conf.

Question: Does this only apply to bumpers from Apple?

Jobs: There are almost no third party cases out there. The number are small. We are not going to refund that. ... It's a very small number. ... As a consumer electronics manufacturer, if we tell the world what our future products going to be, they tend to stop buying our current products. If they stop buying current products, we have a crisis and have to focus on that and we have to stop developing new products...In general, we don't tell apeople about new products until they are ready to go...If we gave things to case vendors, they have a tried and true history of putting them on the Web as well. That's what we run up against...We would rather keep new products quiet until they are ready...The case vendors haven't had a history of helping us do that. It's a conundrum. There is no easy answer. If people want to write us and let us know, we will consider that on a case by case basis.

OK so I decided to skip the iPhone 4 for the simple reason that I am not eligible for an upgrade yet, so may be I don't have the right to chime in here but I do. I just watched the press conference about the antenna issue.

I am an Apple fan since many years. Which large company who has a problem do we know would come out and have their CEO give a press conference about the problem and than offer a free resolution or refund? I hear people asking about a recall but Steve just said it himself, there is no real solution in the world yet for the antenna issue, nowhere. So what good would a recall do. Lets face it is still a CELL PHONE and they are not perfect yet. Would I like to have perfect reception all the time everywhere, YES I WOULD but that's not the case yet.

I use my 3GS mainly for other things than calling and even with calling I never had a better smart phone. Believe me I had three Black Berries before the iPhone and was close to throwing them against the wall they were messing up left and right. No company is perfect neither is Apple but I am sure they will find a solution in a way.

I am not saying it's Apple and Apple only but when I compare my experience with other products from different companies I take Apple any time. So really nobody is holding a gun to anybodies head and makes them buy an iPhone 4. Take it or leave it.

if your not happy return it, stop ********! they are giving a free bumper thats the best they can do right now.

although i have to call steve jobs out, in his press conference he said he got 5k emails saying his phone works fine. well they sold 3 million. 5,000 of 3,000,000 is not good.

thank you for my free bumper / case.

I didn't know I could write Steve personally to say that I like my phone. Gee if I'd known that, I would have. And I'm betting a couple other million happy iP4 owners didn't know it either. So, I don't think you're assumption that 5K positive emails is indicative that there are 2,995,000 unhappy people is even a reasonable assumption......

It was predictable. We knew Jobs would stick his head in the sand, ignore the warnings of his own RF antenna engineers and take the cheap route, offering bumpers. The phone's design IS compromised and you just knew he would never acknowledge it. Since Jobs advertised this phone as having BETTER reception than the 3GS, how is it he is acknowledging the 4 actually drops MORE calls than the 3GS...no matter how small the % he claims??????

The case mitigates the issue in some cases, but does not eliminate the problem. Now, anyone having any doubt about the quality of Apple's customer service, should be able to clearly see the real deal. Of course the Kool-Aid drinkers will continue their worshiping.

Have you actually seen the bumper? It doesn't alter the thinness of the phone. It does make it slightly wider, but not thicker. Had the phone come with a bumper already installed, there would have likely been zero complaints. It's not bad looking (and no I don't have one as I prefer a full case to ensure that if I drop my phone, I can't break the glass). It even has metal buttons for volume that are just as nice as the buttons on the phone itself.
Then we add a Bumper????

Sounds great avanpelt. I'm taking a very close look at the new Samsung Captivate that's coming out next week. That too is a Droid and the latest iteration of these looks very good and a real competitor to the IPhone...but perhaps without the issues. Today's press conference just confirmed that Apple has lost its way.

Can we choose the color of the bumper? LOL.. I ordered 2 cases for my iphone 4 already.. The gel ones just because I never leave my phones naked, I don't want them to get scratches on my phones... I don't mind if I have to have it covered since I always do cover my phones anyways but the phone should be able to hold a call without them.... I think when the iphone 5 comes out apple should at least give iphone 4 customers a huge discount on it, of course for those who still have drop calls with the bumper on, if they want to keep their customers happy if keep them at all.

I for 1 have had no issues with mine - if people dont like the look of the bumper, I found a great clear case that shows off the stainless steel made by Belkin, got it at Best Buy. Could be the reason I have had no reception or drop call issues, I bought it the day I got the phone (launch day) and its been on ever since. I'm in the group Jobs described today - NO ISSUES and love it.

Yeah, don't compare the 5000 emails to the 3,000,000 units sold. He said half of one percent called about a problem. That's 15-60,000, So that leaves 2,984,000 who didn't report a problem ! Not bad !!

First off I don't trust anything the man says. Second, all the phones that WILL be returned have not YET been returned. People will be approaching their 30 day return window this week. Let's see what happens then...especially given the press conference.

Unfortunately I am stuck in my contract and cannot switch 5 iphone lines over. Apple screwed the world and people want to turn a blind eye. Man how things change when the shoes are on the other foot. If this was another rival company it would be flame broiled and charred. Imagine MS telling you to put a condomon your laptop to keep Windows from dropping your WiFi signal..outrage!

That's a great point and 100% true. Any screw up by MS would be a major earthquake here.
