You will find that there is more software available for the Oculus Go versus a unit where you insert the iPod in as the display.

Don't know what type VR headset. Just researching getting one (for Christmas) for my grandsons who have iPod touch. Any recommendations? Is the Oculus Go a good choice? Easy to operate?

From my experience the Oculus Go is just about the only option to consider. It is very easy to use and its display is phenomenal.

I was looking at the Stand alone model which seems not to need a phone/iPod. Would there be enough apps for children to warrant purchase of the device?

What type of VR headset? Headsets that emulate the functionality of Google Cardboard can be used with iPod touch and supported media content. The Oculus Go can also be setup from an iPod touch.
