Only Final Cut Pro and Imovie seems to give me this problem.
Compressor is fine. iWork seems to work too.

System Prefs >Accessibility >Display. Switch off increased contrast and reduce transparency. The problem comes up daily.

FIXED: System Preferences - Accessibility - Display - tick off "Reduce Transparency"
