Airpods Pro keep falling out of my ears!

I just got Airpods Pro and they will not stay in my ears for more than a minute or so. I feel them start creeping and I know I have only a second or two before they seem to jump out of my ear as if they were being repelled or something. I have tried every size tip and they all do the same thing. I never had any problems with my old Airpods so this is strange to me. If I don't find a fix I'm going to have to return them as they are basically unusable. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

I was having the same problem and started searching for solutions because I’m outside of my window to return my AirPods Pro. I found a suggestion to wear them upside down, at about the 2:00 position. I tried it and it immediately worked. I did a seal test and it had a seal. Didn’t fall out. I made a call on the phone and on FaceTime and was heard perfectly. It does look silly, but they didn’t fall out. Here’s a photo for reference.

I had this exact problem, and may have discovered a solution.

First of all - the problem. My Airpod Pro's would be constantly falling out of my ears....forget vigorous exercise, even simply using a elliptical trainer (with no impact) my Pro's would be falling out all the time. It was a real nightmare, because every few minutes I would have to push them in a little harder, or bend down to pick them up when they fell out. It really did impact my enjoyment of my workout, since all the time I was concentrating on ensuring the little Pro's weren't falling out and I couldn't really ever get into the 'zone' when I was wearing them.

I had just assumed that Apple had designed these for a 'standard shaped ear canal' and maybe my ear canal was of a different shape. After all, who's to know, right ?

Then I had an idea. Perhaps my ear canal was shaped just like everyone elses, but perhaps my skin was a little more oily than other people. I usually took to the gym in the morning before I had my shower, and so perhaps the natural oils in my skin, and therefore in my ear canal, were preventing the Airpods from creating the perfect seal that other users had been experiencing.

So, for the last few days, I've been cleaning both my ear canal, and the Airpod Pro tips, with a cleansing wipe - one that has an alcohol base so that the cleansing is both thorough, and which dries quickly. I will clean deeply inside my ear with the cleansing wipe, then both sides of the tip of the Airpod Pro, and then put this in my ear as soon as it dries.

And hey presto. It works. It bloody works.

I'm now working out at the gym for a hard 45 minutes and not a single slippage. Not even a hint of a slippage. No loss of sound, no need to concentrate on these little devices when I'm trying to work out. I can't promise this solution will work for everyone, but it did work for me.

I guess the 'fault' wasn't with Apple all along - and I can now start to LOVE these little devices the way that Apple always intended.

So I have been holding off on sending my review of the AZLA SednaEarfit XELASTEC so that I could try them out for a few months...

At first use- THEY ARE A GAME CHANGER.. the best word to describe them is having a “Tacky” stick to them which makes them NEVER FALL OUT!!!

That said- they definitely wear down over time & each pair only stays strong for about a month... which in reality (@ $33 for 3 pair is an additional $130/year!!?!?).

The sound is still awesome although if you compare with the silicone tips I would rate them as follows:

Initial In ear HOLD 10/10

Transparency Mode an 8/10.

Comfort 9/10

Durability 6.5/10

Sound Cancellation 8.5/10

All in all- I was super stoked to try these and share my experience with the community but wanted to give them the test of time before recommending such an expensive solution..

I added this pic to show I still have yet to use one pair and the other two are worn down.

(Second pic is what they first looked like when I opened the box and installed them!)

I discovered that ear wax or during the day oils that build in the ear canal will make the silicone tips to become a little slippery. So a daily temporary fix I carry packets of eye glasses cleaner (alcohol wipes) and wipe the silicone clean the wipe with a tissue. Then I’ll take the same alcohol wipe and clean my canal out then use the tissue to wipe out excess alcohol and or oil/wax clean. At this point ears and tips are not slippery. I’ve found this helps but have to do daily.

second fix is an article I read where a guy in Italy bought replacement tips that are generic. They are made of memory form. See attached picture. What you do is take the foam head off the generic ones and slide them underneath the silicone tips. Slide them over the stem of the AirPod tip and they slide right up underneath and firm up the tip. The tips are very flimsy and with firm foam underneath they will lodge in place and are supposed to stay in place better.

I was having the same problem. The Apple ear tips, while comfortable and an improvement over the 1st AirPods, didn’t provide a secure fit for my ears. The AirPods would start to slip out of my ears affecting the sound quality and would occasionally fall out if I leaned over.

I was able to solve the fit issue with a 3rd party replacement ear tip that I found on Amazon. These have more of a gel feel to them and actually improved the noise cancellation and bass response for me. Search for AZLA SednaEarfit XELASTEC for Airpods Pro.

Airpods now stay put in my ears and are comfortable.

After a year and MULTIPLE purchases of various types of foam tips for AirPod Pro’s, along with using them upside down, and attempting to secure them them in place with sticky silicone ear plugs, I have FINALLY found a solution that works perfectly:

AZLA SednaEarfit XELASTEC ear tips.

They can be purchased at the usual online stores. There, you’ll find that they come in many sizes: S, MS, M, ML, and L that are packed in various collections containing multiple sizes in one package. I found that those types of size collections are useful, since it was not at all intuitive which size(s) would comfortably and securely fit my ear canals.

I can’t believe I’m saying this after so long and so many attempted solutions, but at least for me, the problem is finally SOLVED!

I strongly suggest you give them a try. And I have absolutely NO proprietary connection to the manufacturer.

I've been having this issue as well. Mine always popped out whenever I smiled. One thing I've done (just now) that seems to be helping: I realized that I installed one of my AirPod tips incorrectly. I was looking at the animation on how to change tips (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210633) and realized that one of my tips didn't have the same angle as was shown in the animation. I pulled it off, rotated it some, popped it back on, and the fit does seem a bit better. I've tried smiling several times now, and the AirPods seem to be staying in.

I hope this response will be useful for everyone experiencing this issue with the airpods not staying firmly inside ear canals. First, I purchased the first generation Pro model about a year after they were released thinking it was the same/similar type of fit as the first generation Airpods. After starting to use them, they started to slip outside my ear canal. I couldn’t wash my car, run, or even tilt my head because they would slip right off. I tried all three sizes hoping it was the silicone tips but no success. Then the 14 day return window expired so I decided to try to “adapt” to these countless times with the ear tip test, speaking to AppleCare support, even researching online several hours how others are able to use them without issue. These mainly sat on my desk or used when traveling but it was constant readjusting them and it was quite a hassle. So today, I decided to research how silicon interacts with our skin. Voila, the answer was as simple as it was to understand how Apple designed them. In order for the silicon tips to stay firmly inside the ear canal, it must be “dry”. In other words, the area for each individuals ear canal must be “clear” of any ear wax in order for the tips to be seated properly. And it made perfect sense, the small layer of ear wax in my ear canal was the reason they would not stay seated. So very gently, I used a few more at home solutions to remove the minor amount of residual wax in each ear canal. These Airpods remain snug, I can hear the excellent audio quality everyone raves about, and finally finally I can move tilt my head, etc. They work. Thank goodness. It is absolutely critical the silicon be seated inside your ear canals dry to make proper contact. Please be prudent if you or others try this solution because you don’t want to injure your ear canals or worse. Once your ear canals are dry, test each silicon tip size, follow Apple’s recommendations support articles, and it should go well. I have a few years of catching up/listening with these airpods because I really wanted these to work. Cheers and best of luck.

There are third party memory foam tips specially for Airpods Pro. For those who have problems with the silicon tips.

there are from china so delivery will take some time.

Here is a review video of guy who ordered them.

I kept having the same problem with my right ear only. Left stays in without an issue. After some searching I thought about getting some foam tips on eBay. But I was worried they would break apart and not last.

So I made a hybrid solution where I cut part of a foam ear tip (RIYO Premium Memory Foam Earphone Earbuds) I got on amazon and added it to the included silicon ear tips. It’s been working great for me so I wrote up directions here https://www.thatsdadscoffee.com/fix-airpods-pro-falling-out/

I was inspired by another article I found that mentions a similar solution. But I couldn’t find that same foam ear tips here in the USA. I can confirm the above ear tips worked for me. About a $6 dollar fix and you get 12 foam tips.

I've had the Airpod Pro's since they were released and have the same problem with them falling out of my ears constantly (regardless of the eartip size). The only thing that's made a huge difference for me is Earhoox (https://www.earhoox.com/products/earhoox-for-earpods-airpods). You have to kind of wiggle it around to fit it on the APPs and not block the sensors, but they don't fall out of my ears at all anymore! The biggest downside to these is that you can't close the case with them (so the battery drains quicker) but it's definitely worth it for me since I leave it on and the fit/sound quality is 100% better with them.

As with many others in this thread, none of the three sizes of slippery silicone ear tips that came with my AirPods Pros work. All fell out in minutes, if not seconds. I solved the situation by spending yet another $30 on Amazon to buy memory foam tips from Foam Masters, which worked perfectly right out of the box. Because of Foam Masters, I can now use my $250 AirPods Pros so, really, my total investment is $280.

Update to my last reply:

I ordered memory foam tips from amazon. 100% fixed the issue so so so much better! they’re comfier and wayyy more secure. They feel denser and heavier too, so it balanced out the weight so the body of the airpod isn’t pulling it out

heres the link to the tips i ordered

Link Dream 12 Pieces Replacement Ear Tips for AirPods Pro Accessory Silicon and Memory Foam Ear Buds Tips with Portable Storage Box https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085XSSCH3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_NDzeFbC6622H9

took a little trial and error to find sizes that passed the ear tip fit test but eventually i found the right size! just gotta make sure you squish and pinch the tip before inserting it so it expands in your ear. so comfy!

I lost an AirPods Pro the first week I had them. They would fall out at the slightest turn of my head. Cost 89 bucks to replace. I bought elago AirPod Pro Ear Hooks at Amazon for 13 bucks. I bought red ones which look a little tacky, but I can do yard work and go on walks with out losing AirPods.

I also bought the elago AirPods Pro Earbud cover with tip. They are supposed to help keep the AirPod Pro in your ear without the ear hook, but I would rate them as a slight improvement when used without the hooks, but still risky to move your head much. I now use the ear hook and cover with tip together. AirPods are supposed to last about two years. When I buy new EarPods, I’ll try a much cheaper brand.

PS. I tried all of the ‘fixes’ - push into ear, fit test, twist them at various angles, etc - Apple should let customers know before purchase that there is a strong likelihood that the Airpods won't fit, even with three sizes of tips. Just think - a tiny portion of customers take the time to complain and there are 48 pages of complaints so far.
