accountsd (mail) process and CPU usage.

OMG, why is the accountsd (mail) process using all CPU resources when there is no wifi connected? As soon as I enable wifi CPU usage drops to nothing...

This has been an issue for me for the past month or so (I think since updating to catalina) .

Am I the only one?

Thanks for any input!

K.

Some blame gmail accounts, for me it was outlook accounts.

Found the solution which worked for me here:https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/accountsd-mail-process-and-cpu-usage.2212236/post-28128430

I tried the following and it seems to have been enough to solve the issue for me :
- Quit Mail, Messages, Contacts, Notes
- in System Preferences > Internet Accounts, select your Exchange account
- Uncheck everything (Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Reminder, Notes)
- Wait a few minutes
- Reboot
- In System Preferences > Internet Accounts, select again your Exchange account and enable the services you need to sync

No, same thing still going on here, and ever since the version update. Looks like it's one of Catalina's many failings that have been deemed non-essential to patch. I usually only notice anything going on when the fan starts making so much noise I can hear it through my headphones, and then I just kill accounsd in the process manager. So far, it appears to restart without further problems every time. It's annoying though, as this whole process takes me out of whatever I was doing and casually slashes my battery by about 10%.
