Need to update lists/columns via Acrobat PDF on my Mac OS High Sierra--need app I guess. Will "Free Mac PDF work? There should be a simple way to add/delete incoming lists/columns from another PDF.

Apple's Preview is a reader, not an editor, so you cannot change original PDF content with it. The Mac App Store has PDF Editors available as PDFPen/PDFPenPro, or PDF Expert. There are others in the Mac App Store. Adobe's Acrobat Pro DC is a subscription product that will run you about $180USD/year.

Try OmniPage:

Having tables and such, I do not know if this would work for you, but try a trial edition of OmniPage. That might be just what you need.

It uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition): It allows you to scan a document, edit it on your own, then save the document.

***You would:

  1. print out the document
  2. scan the document with OmniPage
  3. save it as a Document
  4. edit it

So, Start By...

  1. Creating a Time Machine Backup of your Mac
  2. Installing OnmiPage
  3. Performing the above 4 steps***
  4. Then, Restoring your Mac from a Time Machine Backup once complete
