Just got MacBook Air , Big Sur, with M1 chip and tried to install Adobe acrobat reader, it’s not available!! Someone mentioned PDF expert but that’s not free. I need to be able to add comments or text and to DocuSign PDFs.
any suggestions?

Preview does indeed open PDFs for viewing, but I can't do anything like add comments, or e-sign/docusign, or other features available in Adobe Reader.
I just installed Reader DC, and opened a few PDFs. Looks like this will work for what I need.

If you need to change original PDF text, then that requires an extra-cost PDF Editor. If you simply want to add annotations or enter content into forms, that can be done with Apple's included Preview, or optionally with the current Adobe Acrobat Reader. Some form designs are not supported by Preview, and your fallback would be the Adobe product as they alone are capable of maintaining current PDF code revisions.
I didn't even try with Preview, as I never knew I could add text/comments etc. using Preview. It also really clutters up the list of "recently opened" files. I don't need to change text at the moment, just add notes or comments. And I've needed to use DocuSign frequently in the past year, so I want to be able to do that.

No. Adobe isn't supporting the M1 chip yet. Don't try to install it as it just messes things up. https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/apple-silicon-m1-chip.html
hmm, I've been using Acrobat Reader DC for the past month and it's fine for what I need.
what things are going to get "messed up"?
I tried to install it in late January and it froze everything. Turned out it wasn’t updated for the M1 chip. I had to uninstall it. Is there an updated version?
I installed it in mid-February and it’s fine. I haven’t done anything beyond looking at PDFs and adding comments so far, but it’s working for me.
That’s great. I don’t even want to try until they say it works with Big Sur and the M1. I tried asking Adobe and they gave me the runaround am saying I had to install Rosetta sigh
Apple iBook app is quick and easy to edit PDF files and sign etc.
I don’t know why they would say that, for Acrobat Reader DC. I have latest MacBook with Big Sur and M1 chip, it’s working for me.
