Would you return your iPhone 4 to get the iPhone 4.1 on September ?

Hi all,

The question is simple : would you return your current iPhone 4 to get the iPhone 4.1 on September ? I had to give the revised iPhone 4 a name , as Mr.Jobs did not deny the hardware revision of the phone in the Q&A session of today's presentation.
I have the iPhone 4 and the Bumper, no signal issues with the case on, but a hardware-fixed phone sounds much better, what would you do if you were in my situation?

Many thanks..

Would I return my iPhone 4? Yes, I would and I have. Bought it 25th June, returned the phone today. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing device and I hope a permanent fix is in the works but seriously folks, spending £500 and receiving a phone that loses service because I hold it normally is unacceptable. My sister bought an iPhone 4 on launch day. Today she informed me that nearly every call she's made has dropped at least once. FYI, that call itself dropped twice, haha! I received a free bumper last week from Apple store on the proviso that it was a temporary fix until the Official Announcement on Friday hopefully cleared things up. The employees were genuinely worried that a recall would be announced. Once I used the bumper it was like a different phone, which only highlighted how poor the performance was without it fitted. Considering the hype generated when iPhone 4 was announced about improvements made to antenna performance over previous iterations, my decision to request a full refund was an easy one.

Interesting that you are in the UK. I am an ex-Londoner living in Orange County, CA. Extremely good coverage from AT&T here. Had the 3GS and got occasional dropped calls. Am left handed, have had the 4 since day one, and get about the same (or less) dropped calls.

As you have written in a very balanced, straightforward manner, can I ask you a question please?

Do you honestly think that it's the iPhone dropping the calls, or your quality of service provider?

Did you have the same provider before with a different phone and less incidence of dropped calls?

I am one of those people that believes that this whole business is totally overblown, but maybe it's because the quality of service here in Southern California is very good.

Then for you, you did what was best for your situation. I myself would not have a naked iPhone4. With glass on both sides, and with the knowledge that no matter how careful one is with their toys, glass scratches, I want my phone to remain pristine. If I want to admire it's beauty, I pop the case off. But after the beauty pageant, the case goes right back on. And the upside is, with a case, there are no antenna issues whatsoever. And I get to enjoy a device that has so many 'uber' cool features that [in my book] there just isn't anything out there that can hold a candle to the iP4.

Good luck with whatever cell phone you chose to replace your iP4......

I had my iphone 4 since launch and I have not had any dropped calls. The iphone 4 does not have any flaws. Well, I should say mine doesn't.

On my old phone I do have an anti-glare screen protector. I'd probably get a clear protector for front and back for the iPhone 4, in fact I would have if they had them in-store when I made my purchase. But I don't like cases not for aesthetic reasons, but just cause it makes it that much bigger and difficult to take out of my pocket. Maybe if there were a case I really loved I'd do it.

At any rate, I'm not really planning on getting a new phone. I'll just stick with what I have till the next iPhone iteration comes 'round.

Of course Apple is going to fix the antenna. They are hiring like crazy & will do something about it.

Also, it won't be promoted as a fix, it will be "an improved antenna", or "the best antenna on the market". iPhone5, or whatever the next version will be called.

Calling the next phone iPhone4.x would be admission to the problem. And as we all heard, that was no problem.

I agree with your underlying statement, but without sounding like an Apple sycophant, I tend to think the word should be "improve" the antenna, rather than "fix".

"Fix" implies something that is broken - in my case, and in apparently the vast majority of cases, it could be an issue, but relatively minor - an inconvenience.

I used to have a Treo 650 that I loved - went through about six of them because they had this little habit of dying from unknown causes at any moment. Have had issues with every cell phone I have owned since about 1988.

The iPhone 4 is unquestionably the most amazing phone, nay "experience" that I have ever had with a phone.

Will the iPhone 5 - when it comes out in 2011 be better - almost certainly, and I will upgrade. But in the meantime I absolutely love my IP4

Would you return your iPhone 4 to get the iPhone 4.1 on September ?
